I am happy to announce I am now a freelance contributing writer for domino.com! Like many design geeks, I have enjoyed the magazine for years and easily fall down the rabbit hole whenever I go online.
If you are not familiar with the magazine, it is a youthful, light and approachable take on interior design. Their aesthetic really hit a cord with 20 and 30-somethings when they launched back in 2005. They offered something more attainable than House Beautiful or Architectural Digest. Many of the homes they feature are apartments instead of large houses, and are often decidedly girly, perfect for the successful singleton or new mom who make up their core readership. Featured celebrities are not your typical Hollywood megastar on offer at AD; these are often young, artistic and a bit quirky. Think Zooey Deschanel, Drew Barrymore and Mindy Kaling.
Many hardcore fans took it really hard when they closed their doors due to the recession in 2009 (along with Gourmet and loads of others). Luckily they re-launched in 2013 with a strong online presence and quarterly print magazines.
So when I met the editor earlier this year I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to pitch some story ideas for their online content. It felt like a really good fit, with their focus on eclectic style, often featuring vintage furniture. After the standard writer’s procrastination, I pitched and they accepted! I will be linking these articles on the blog, so stay tuned!
