I was just perusing the ‘Sotheby’s Selects’ newsletter and was quite taken by this bold interior by Robert Couturier. This space is on Fifth Ave (of course) and while a little crazy for me personally, I just love the bold paneling. Couturier is a designer of the highest order, but one that flies relatively under the radar compared to many others of his caliber. While many of his projects are very traditional, he has worked on some fabulous spaces that take from both modern and traditional.
A few of my favorites-
I find the juxtaposition of this very traditional (and very Scandinavian) wall paneling and the very Art Deco and early Modernism furniture to be fascinating:
I also love this traditional English country home that has been essentially whitewashed throughout except for a few key spaces where the woodwork really creates a jewel-box effect.
