MEMORIES OF ST LOUIS

For today’s travel diary, I am reminiscing about a recent long weekend to St Louis as well as my year of living in the great, historic city.  I lived in the Central West End, an area steeped in Southern Charm (yes, St Louis is considered Southern by most, and you can see why).  Of course the city has its problems like many others, but when I wander these lanes, all the world and all my troubles seem quite far away.  What I love most about historic cities is the ability to loose myself entirely on long walks.  I suffer from intense nostalgia for the past, together with a passionate love of the built world, and wandering among such townhouses and mansions makes me sublimely happy.  I don’t really need much more in life :)

I’ve noticed that suburban home builders are starting to look back to those special details — more than just color and scale — that make a facade unique. It seems like Americans are feeling a little of that nostalgia, too!

I am SO glad to hear this. Suburban homes have been so very boring for much too long. We need some inspiration from the past!
